Johnny Weir was waiting to take the ice, trying to calm his nerves, when he heard a television commentator talking about what a "disaster" he'd been last year. No way Weir was going to put up with that. Weir skated cleanly Friday night to win the short program at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships. He wasn't very exciting, but his program got the job done and gave him the early edge in the latest round of his on-ice rivalry with Evan Lysacek.
