The main stories on ABC television's 1900 news:
1. A Commission of Inquiry has prepared a 220-page interim report in to last summer's
floods in Queensland, in time for the next wet season. Most recommendations are aimed
at the state government, and Premier Anna Bligh intends to implement them, "without exception".
2. After weeks of a political brawl, the US President has done a deal to end America's
debt crisis. But the deal still has to be agreed on by Congress.
3. The likelihood of an end to the US debt crisis could mean more trouble for Australia.
It clears the way for higher interest rates here.
4. Kevin Rudd is recovering in hospital after an operation to replace a heart valve
with one from a cow.
5. The veteran Labor political Clyde Holding has died.
